THE EORL COLUMN: PODCASTS, CHALLENGE CUP AND KR TEST

Eorl Crabtree talks about his new project, the Giants defeat to St Helens and the prospect of Hull KR

In this week's column, I'll cover something I've been working on with a few of my colleagues, the Giants valiant defeat to the League Leaders in the Challenge Cup Sixth Round and tonight's game against Hull KR.

Doing new things is something that I'm always interested in - and at the Giants, there are always new opportunities to try your hand at, and last week we tried something new at the club. The Giant Podcast, hosted by Cameron Deacon and featuring myself, Tim Burton (our Operations Manager), Conor Murphy and a feature guest each week. This week it was our Equipment Supervisor, Andy Toulcher, who shared some incredible stories about how working at the Giants saved his mental health. It's a pleasure to work on things like this, providing new and exciting content to fans, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive so far. Give it a listen, it's available on Soundcloud, on Spotify and on Apple Podcasts - it's well worth it, I'll guarantee you that!

Last week, we unfortunately exited the Challenge Cup to League Leaders, St Helens and despite the disappointing outcome, there was much to admire about the performance. Our goal-line defence was immaculate, and we successfully held off the powerful dummy running game that the Redvee possess. When you face up against the biggest teams in the game, keeping things tight and controlled is key and I feel we did that - we restricted the attacking verve of one of the best teams in the country.

This week, we face Hull Kingston Rovers, a team we comfortably beat last time we played them in March. Despite that result, the Rovers will be a tough test and in Tim Sheens, have one of the best, most knowledgeable coaches in the whole game. We need to remain vigilant and take lots of the aspects of our play from last week into this week, and I think this could be the start of a good run for the lads.

I had some great memories playing against the Robins - you might have seen on Social Media this week, one of my tries was going around! That day, I swatted aside Canberra Raiders captain and England hooker, Josh Hodgson and side-stepped Castleford winger Greg Eden - just proving that in the Prop Forwards Union, we have some skill.
