ACADEMY LOSE AGAINST WARRINGTON

Huddersfield Giants Under 19s 14-42 Warrington Wolves Under 19s

Huddersfield Giants Under 19's academy side went down to a 14-42 defeat at the hands of Warrington at the weekend at Lockwood park. Despite the scoreline the young Giants competed well for large parts but were undone by some good Warrington play and tired defending.

It started off well, Giants attacking the Viaduct end and looking confident, moving the ball around and showing good line speed. That good start was rewarded, when Calum Cameron took a neat ball and strode over on the left, but Josh Pinder was unable to add the extras to give the Giants a 4-0 lead. However, Warrington's forwards were beginning to make inroads and they were soon level, going over near the posts, not long after, the Wire were over again, a clean break downfield split the Giants defence and they were in under the posts. Giants had their moments but good Warrington defence and stray passes meant they couldn't get over the line, and the visitors made them pay, a good run from their right winger right on half time saw them extend their lead, and with all 3 tries converted the Wolves led 18-4 at the break.

H/T 4-18 And Warrington continued their try scoring at the start of the second half, another clean break from inside their own half saw them again dot down under the posts, not long after, they were celebrating again, a break on the right drew the cover and a pass inside and they were over, 2 more conversions took the score away from the 'Baby Giants' to 4-30.

Credit to Huddersfield though, who didn't give in and started to cause the Wire defence a few problems of their own, Ronan Michael almost over, just being tackled short and Ben Tibbs unlucky a couple of times after great work by Dom Young. But then Warrington just about finished them off, a good run through the middle scattered the defenders and they were in under the posts again, the conversion taking the score to 4-36.

However, the Giants' effort was finally rewarded with a great try by Dom Young, fresh from his first team debut,s uperbly collected a high ball on the last tackle, it was then kept alive through hands until Logan Simpson dived over in the corner, Pinder couldn't add the extras. And there was more to cheer for the Giants supporters, just a couple of minutes later, Finlay Bruce scoots over to the left of the posts and with Pinder off the field, Kobe Poching added the extras. Warrington completed the scoring right on time with another short range try and conversion.
