Message from our Club Chaplain

With only a few days to go until Christmas, the uncertainty and obstacles we experienced around this time last year, seem to have come back again.

Many of us have faced and continue to face challenges, loss and dark times, but despite the immediate gloomy outlook, we can take inspiration and hope from events from the past.

I recall the 1953 Challenge Cup Final when Huddersfield overcame the favourites, St Helens, 15-10 . That match was played at Wembley with 89,588 spectators – fans of their teams and the game, following the stars of the time – one young star being Huddersfield stand-off half, Peter Ramsden, who scored two tries despite breaking his nose in the sixth minute of the match. That day, Peter Ramsden became the youngest player to win the Lance Todd Trophy for man-of-the-match on his 19th birthday!

What a story and what a privilege it would have been to be at Wembley that day.

The Christmas story is one of following a different star, long ago, and the town of Bethlehem where a much smaller ‘crowd’ were also privileged, to be present for the most momentous of events and a birthday which would change the World and literally split time – the birth of Jesus Christ. Born to bring Light to a dark world and offer hope and inspiration.

So, as we look forward to a new year and a new Super League season, I wish you and all associated with Huddersfield Giants, a Merry Christmas and hope, peace and joy for 2022 and beyond.
