Huddersfield Giants Head Coach Rick Stone admitted that he was disappointed with his side's performance as they fell to a heavy defeat against Salford Red Devils.

The Giants were outscored nine tries to three in an uncharacteristic performance and Stone knows that the Claret and Gold lacked intensity:

“We weren’t at the races today, that’s for sure. In the first ten minutes they turned up with real intent and we didn’t manage to match that for the whole game.

“They ran harder, tackled harder and did everything with a bit more intent than what we did. They controlled the ball well, particularly in the first half. They executed well and marched down the field to put us under pressure and did a good job.

“We’ve been competing pretty hard against the best sides recently but we’ve let ourselves down and disappointed a lot of people like the fans and people at the Club. Id like to think it’s something we will get over but if you’re trying to build something then it’s not something you want to see from your team.”

The Giants were 30-4 down at the break following Jermaine McGillvary’s late try in the first-half but Salford soon scored two quick fire tries to put the game out of reach. Stone added:

“We haven’t had a good record here. We prepared pretty well after competing hard against Castleford but regardless of the position in the table you’ve got to add some priority in your own performance. If you’re not doing that you’re going to be found wanting and that’s what happened today.

“There was a couple of errors at the start of the second half from kicks which lead to tries which isn’t great. I think we ended up with 41% of the ball which is a bit skinnier than what you need to win games and full credit to them because they played well.”

Next up is another away trip to St Helens and Stone has urged his side to bounce back after today’s disappointment:

“We’re looking for a response after today. After a heavy defeat, you need a response and to make sure that it doesn’t happen again and that’s what we’ll be working towards when we play Saints. If we turn up with the same sort of attitude then we’ll get the same result so there’s plenty to work on.”
