THE EORL COLUMN: WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT

Eorl Crabtree talks the win over Salford, the Giant Podcast and our fantastic Continental Clash ticket deal

Well, that was a relief! Last Thursday's win against Salford by 36-18 was a cause of massive relief to everybody at the club. Seeing the side gel as well as they did, and fight back from 8-0 down early in the game felt like a watershed moment. The joy in Simon Woolford's face at the end of the game told a story, and the performances of Matty English and Oliver Wilson showed where the future of the club lies - in our youth. 

A social media post by the club during the week counted 9 players in the team who received their Super League debut at the Giants - that's an absolutely astonishing figure. When we say that we are Huddersfield Born, it's not just a slogan, it's the absolute ethos of what we are trying to achieve here through the work of Andy Kelly, Steve Hardisty and the Academy staff - we want to have a day in the future, where 1-17 are raised and developed within the club. Now, more than ever in our Super League history, we are close to achieving this dream. 

Players like Darnell McIntosh, Jake Wardle, the Seniors and the Polar Bears aren't just in the team because they are young, but because they have been hungry and passionate about putting on the shirt. With other sides dipping into the transfer market looking for passion and hunger to inject into their starting line-ups, we have found those qualities within our own organisation in our young players, while their inexperience has shown all season, we are well set for an exciting future. 

It was great to talk to Luke Robinson this week also on the Giant Podcast and it's great to see a club culture developing within our coaching staff. As an ex-player, Robbo knows what this club means to the fans and the people of Huddersfield and is passionate about relaying that onto the players and fans. His game knowledge is also superb and I would recommend anyone to give the podcast a listen - although I would say that, as a co-host!

Finally, with all this in mind, I'd like to appeal to the people of Huddersfield - come down and support us this week at our Continental Clash with Catalans Dragons. With Super League looking tighter and more competitive than every and every minute mattering, we need your support. This is YOUR team - they are part of the fabric of the town. With every game being 'like a Grand Final', in the words of Leadership Group member Adam O'Brien in his column this week, we need Grand Final level support in our matches against the Dragons and Leeds coming up in the next few weeks.
