On Tuesday 16th January (7.15pm) Huddersfield Light Opera are putting on a very special performance of the pantomime Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the Lawrence Batley Theatre - featuring a number of special guests!

Giants Ambassador Eorl Crabtree, who is sponsored by The Burdsey Family, spoke to about the upcoming Giants Panto which will be coming to the Lawrence Batley Theatre on Tuesday 16th January, 7:15pm start:

“I did ten years in the Giants Panto, which not many rugby league players can say they have done! Every single time I went out there I really enjoyed it, it’s hilarious to just be put in a position where you don’t have a clue what you’re doing.

“There’s no real clear set of instructions, the run through for the performance is that you turn up an hour earlier than everyone else and you’re shown every routine once before just being left to it. The players will go out of there, none of them knowing what they are doing, and the fans love that. Rugby league players don’t mind being put in a position where they can laugh at themselves, the fans like that and we appreciate them turning out in force.

“The good thing about me being a retired rugby player is that now I get to watch the lads out there, so it’s my turn to enjoy the performance.

“Last year Ukuma Ta’ai fell off the stage, it was one of those moments when everyone’s heart was in their mouth. He was dancing on the stairs and decided to walk down the stairs but forgot where the step was and just fell. The fans thought it was quite amusing. Obviously last year we struggled getting players onto the field and the last thing you expect is to pick up an injury from the Giants Panto! He was absolutely fantastic, the lads are brilliant and get really involved which helps make it such a great occasion.

“I’ve got to give credit to the production which is brilliantly done, it’s a great Pantomime to go to. All the staff deserve credit as they are all volunteers and do it for the passion and desire to put on a big performance and I think as Giants fans and players we owe them to make it a really lively night.

“Ollie Roberts, Kruise Leeming, Darnell McIntosh, Tyler Dickinson, Sam Wood and Colton Roche will be performing in the Pantomime and I’m not expecting a lot from our players in the show except a lot of laughs. I’m hoping to see a lot of excitement and smiles on the faces of fans watching their performances, but they will make the event the highlight that it is.

“It’s a great show with fantastic organisation, the only thing that is dis-organised are the players which is the beauty of it as it really adds to the comedic value.

“I got to hand pick these players and I chose them because I think they are the daftest and the ones that will create a lot of entertainment for the fans. The Giants Panto is a great experience and one that you’ll never ever forget. They’re in a position where they play rugby and train every single day but they are not prepared for this.

“I would urge fans to come and watch the Pantomime which will be a great show and it will be a thoroughly entertaining night, I’ll be there too and look forward to joining the laughs of everyone in the Lawrence Batley Theatre.”
