Lee Gaskell previews Sunday’s match against Salford Red Devils at the John Smith’s Stadium

Huddersfield Giants take on Salford Red Devils on Sunday, kick off 3pm at the John Smith’s Stadium and Lee Gaskell looked ahead to the encounter.

Gaskell reflected on the Giants performance against Castleford and, after putting in a strong second-half showing, insisted they need to improve:

“I think the first half against Castleford just wasn’t good enough and we need to concentrate on improving on that. It’s a good confidence builder to have scored some points in the second-half and we can take that into Sunday’s game against Salford.

“I think the fans were fantastic in that second-half, they gave us that extra buzz which helped us score one or two more tries and gave us that bit of confidence, if we can take that momentum and belief into the game against Salford then we won’t be far off.

“I think Salford are an enthusiastic side. They’re in a similar position to us, everyone needs the two points so I think it’ll be a tough game. It’s one of those where it’s either us or them and who wants it more. At the end of the day, you can put as many special players on as you want but it’s about the determination and working hard for each other.

“We can all talk, but it’s about going out on the pitch and doing the right things.”

Having cut his elbow on an advertising hoarding in the away match against Wigan in March, which then became infected, Gaskell insists that he has recovered and is enjoying his time in the halves:

“I’m feeling good, touch wood. I did my elbow against Wigan which was a bit of a freak accident with it getting infected, so I spent a few nights in hospital, but apart from that I’ve been feeling good.

“It’s been good in the halves, but as long as we get the wins I’m not really fussed what position I’m playing as long as the team gets the win and everyone is playing well. I’ve just got to do my job in whatever that position is, I’ve just got to support the lads and work hard to get the two points.”
