Support the trio as they raise money for Headway UK in memory of Ronan Costello

Huddersfield Giants’ Eorl Crabtree, Andy Kelly and Steve Hardisty will once-again be making the 120-mile bike ride from the John Smith’s Stadium to the Dacia Magic Weekend in support of Headway UK.

Support Eorl, Andy and Steve on their ride as they raise money for Headway UK in memory of Ronan Costello by donating money to the Foundation.

Having made the ride to the Magic Weekend for several consecutive years, Head of Youth, Andy Kelly, encouraged people to get behind the worthy cause:

“I’m looking forward to it. It should be a great little outing for a great cause, we’re doing it for Headway UK in Ronan Costello’s name. It’s the fourth year of doing it, we now just about know the way and don’t get lost quite so much!

“People can give money to the cause on the Just Giving page, you can also donate by texting MWGR60 £5 to 70070.

“I’m feeling good and am looking forward to it, if people are able to support us by making some donations then that would be fantastic.”

Huddersfield Giants Player Welfare and Education Manager, Steve Hardisty, who recently completed the London Marathon to raise money for Headway UK, also looked ahead to the ride to the Magic Weekend:

“It’s good to do something other than running! Hopefully it doesn’t throw it down with rain on the first day like it has done every year. Raising awareness and money for a really good cause, that is 100% dependent on public funding, and celebrating Ronan’s life is important to us.

“We enjoy doing it, the group that we do it with is always in good spirits so we’re all looking forward to it. I think it’s great, I find it quite easy but the older people in the group will struggle. A lot of fans go up to the Magic Weekend, the crowd gets bigger every year, it’s well supported and when we arrive at St James’ Park with the iconic Eorl Crabtree with us there’s always fans from other Clubs that welcome us there and it creates a really nice atmosphere.”

Club Ambassador, Eorl Crabtree, participated in the ride to the Dacia Magic Weekend for the first time last season and is looking forward to taking on the ride in memory of Ronan Costello for a second time:

“It was a tough experience last year but at the same time the crack between the lads was absolutely brilliant, but we also raised so much money for charity and that’s what it’s all about. It’s a challenge for us but at the same time it’s about remembering Ronan Costello and raising money for the Headway UK foundation.

“We’ve been on a few training rides together and I think I’m a little but better prepared this year. I’m really looking forward to it.

“Steve Hardisty is someone that you can look up to, what he does is unbelievable. He’s such a selfless person in that he gets out there and puts himself through all these challenges for the one reason, it isn’t about participation or winning medals, it’s about raising money for charity and I think it’s amazing. That’s why I want to get involved in this. For me it’s always been about challenging myself, but when you see someone like Steve putting in so much effort for charity, it’s something that inspires me, I’ve always been inspired by rugby players and playing the game, but someone like him is an inspiration to people around him. I’m looking forward to the challenge and riding quite far behind Steve because he is probably up there with one of the fittest blokes I’ve met in my life.

“Ronan played for this Club, which always made us proud, and anyone that plays for the Huddersfield Giants should be remembered. We need to make sure that as a Club and as a town we remember him. He put his body on the line and now we’re doing everything that we can to repay him and try to give something back to recognise what he did for this Club. With the likes of Steve Hardisty and Andy Kelly, his memory will live on forever and I want to be a part of that as well.”
