TURNER BELIEVES IN TALENT ACROSS THE SQUAD

Jordan Turner discusses Catalans performance, returning players and the prospect of Jermaine McGillvary and Akuila Uate.

Jordan Turner saw encouraging signs in the Giants’ performance against Catalans Dragons, and sees things looking up for the Claret and Gold.

“There was definitely improvement – the way we started off in the first 15 minutes was excellent. There were a few crucial moments where we let ourselves down and it was hard to come back from, but I think it was definitely an improvement on the Salford game and things are going to get better from here”

The Giants have had a number of players missing through injury leading up to the season, with Jermaine McGillvary, Lee Gaskell and Ukuma Ta’ai all missing the first two rounds. Despite these players due to come back against Warrington, Turner has faith in every single man in the Giants camp to perform.

“Obviously they’re fantastic players and it’ll be good to get the back on the pitch, but we have belief in each other here, we’ve got a squad of 30+ players and we believe every single one is good enough to take to the field, but it’ll be great to have them back if they're ready”

It’s been a difficult few weeks for the Claret and Gold with combinations in the back three and the halves, practiced in pre-season, being disrupted due to injuries to McGillvary and Gaskell. Turner believes with players coming back, the fluency will return to the side.

“The combinations from the first two rounds were knocked about a little bit and we had to use some different solutions. Once we have a few games together, things will start to click”

With McGillvary due to return, Turner also believes that the combination of Jerry and Akuila Uate, two international wingers, will be one of Super League’s most feared.

“Akuila is an elite winger and we’re lucky to have him and when we have Jermaine McGillvary back, we’ll have two of the best wingers in Super League.”
