GIANTS WOMEN PUT ON SHOW TO DEFEAT FEATHERSTONE

​Huddersfield Giants Women produced a dominant display to secure a convincing 44-6 victory over Featherstone Rovers.

The Giants got off to a flying start when Amelia Brown came out the back of the shape and sent Mollie Iceton down the wing; Iceton finished brilliantly to open the scoring. Becky Grady added the extras to make it 6-0.

Featherstone responded with a try in the left corner after a sustained period of pressure on the Giants’ line, bringing the scores level at 6-6.

The game quickly developed into a fiery contest, with both sides showing plenty of aggression. Featherstone were reduced to 12 players after a player was sin-binned for throwing a punch, while Gracie Hobbs also saw yellow for her involvement in a scrum.

Despite Featherstone enjoying plenty of possession, the Giants defended well and dealt with difficult field position, particularly as errors around the ruck allowed the visitors to build pressure.

Huddersfield regained the lead through a well-worked attacking move. Mollie Iceton produced an excellent kick inside, allowing Meg Preston to collect and score. Grady converted to put the Giants 12-6 ahead.

The Giants then began to take control. Amelia Brown broke through the middle and raced around 50 metres to score a superb individual try, with Grady again adding the extras to make it 18-6.

Huddersfield went into the break with a 12-point advantage.

The Giants continued where they left off after the interval, with a clever scrum play creating another opportunity. Brown came around the back, attracted the Featherstone defence and produced a brilliant one-handed offload to send Mollie Iceton over for her second try of the afternoon. Sam Hulme converted to extend the lead to 24-6.

Huddersfield continued to apply pressure, and a high kick created another opportunity. The ball bounced favourably before being collected by Maddie Clegg, who crossed in the right corner. Hulme was unable to add the conversion, but the Giants were now firmly in control at 28-6.

The visitors continued to show plenty of aggression as the game became increasingly physical, but the Giants refused to be distracted and continued to play their rugby.

Brown then added another try, crashing through the Featherstone defensive line off a drop-off play. Hulme converted to make it 34-6.

There was still more to come from Brown.

The Giants Full back broke away from inside her own half, powering straight through the middle before showing too much pace and strength for the Featherstone defence. Hulme added another conversion as Huddersfield moved 40-6 ahead.

As Featherstone looked to attack, an error gifted the ball to Brown, who picked it up and raced the full length of the field to score a 4th and cap off an outstanding individual performance. Grady was unable to convert, but the Giants had done more than enough.

The final whistle confirmed a 44-6 victory for Huddersfield Giants Women, It was a performance full of attacking quality, defensive resilience and plenty of character as the Giants overcame a fiery Featherstone side to claim an emphatic victory.
