SCOUTING REPORT: WAKEFIELD TRINITY

What we know already about our West Yorkshire Rivals, the Dreadnoughts

The clash between the Giants and Trinity on Friday evening will be a massive game for both sides, as both will need the two points to drag themselves closer to the playoff spots, rather than the relegation spots. Just two points separates the 8th and 9th placed sides in the Betfred Super League table.

Trinity have been a revelation in the competition over the last few years, managing to compete near the top end of the table despite not having the finances of those around them. The West Yorkshire side finished fifth last season in the Betfred Super League after 30 rounds.

This season hasn’t been as kind to them so far. Wakefield have lost their last six games in all competitions, five in the Betfred Super League. They lost at the London Broncos last month, before losing at home to the Catalans Dragons a week later. They were then knocked out of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup by league leaders, St Helens. A 10-0 loss at home to the Leeds Rhinos in difficult conditions followed. Lately they have had two away trips, losing 44-20 at the Salford Red Devils, before losing 30-6 at the second placed Warrington Wolves last weekend.

Despite their recent results, the Giants will need to be wary of the threat they post on Friday evening. The hosts will be determined to get back on track as early as possible, and with their loyal fanbase behind them it will be a difficult task for us this weekend.

Star Player – David Fifita

David Fifita is one of the most sought-after forwards currently playing in the Betfred Super League. Fifita joined Trinity back in 2016 and has signed a new contract at the club this season to keep him there for another three years.

The former Cronulla forward has been at his best this season for Wakefield too. He has featured in 17 out of their 19 Betfred Super League games. Fifita has made 1833 metres in the 2019 season, that is an average of 7.30 metres per carry. The former Tongan international has scored eight tries this season too, as well as setting up a further two for his teammates. Fifita is leading the rest of the competition when it comes to tackle busts this season, nobody has made more than his 115 tackle busts.
