FORMER PLAYER RECEIVES GIANT SURPRISE

Giants Hall of Famer Eorl Crabtree visited former player Nick Holmes this week, and presented him with a special sketch from his playing days.

Former Huddersfield player Nick Holmes received a special visit this week, as Giants Hall of Famer Eorl Crabtree visited the ex-player in Herncliffe Care Home to present him with a sketch of himself in his Huddersfield kit. Nick joined the club in 1977, made his debut in 1979 and finished his career at the club in 1981.

Nick unfortunately suffered a brain tumour in 2004 which resulted in surgery in 2005, he then received further treatment, including proton treatment, in 2006. Since then he has had two mini strokes resulting in a big stroke in 2018, which has led him to be unable to speak, walk or swallow. However this has not affected Nick’s devilish sense of humour as he now communicates with the aid of a machine.

Nick is now being cared for in Herncliffe Care Home. This is a fabulous home in Spring Gardens Lane, Keighley. Up to this point his wife, Val, and daughter, Grace, have cared for him. Val and Nick will be celebrating their silver wedding anniversary on the 4th July, on the date of the Giants trip to Greater Manchester to face Salford Red Devils and we wish Nick, Val and the whole Holmes family a special day on this excellent occasion.
