Giants make deadline day swoop
Brandon Moore arrives from Halifax to bolster the Giants options at hooker.
Huddersfield Giants have secured the loan signing of Halifax hooker, Brandon Moore until the end of the 2020 Season. The 24-year-old has played 67 games since his 2016 arrival at the Shay, and scored 12 tries.
Giants Managing Director, Richard Thewlis said: "With the injury to Adam O'Brien and Reiss Butterworth's illness, there was an obvious gap at hooker in the squad that Luke was keen to fill. Brandon is a player that he knows well from his connections in Halifax, and Brandon has leapt at the chance to have the opportunity at a crack in Super League.
"He will train with us as and when his work commitments permit, and is currently undergoing Covid-19 clearance protocols, which if all goes according to plan, means he can join the group on Sunday.
"We must thank the Halifax club and Ian Croad in particular, for his assistance and support in making this happen ahead of what, Ian recognised, is a hectic run of games for us when we will need every possible fit player. This is a chance to give a wonderful opportunity to a young man that they think of very highly at the Halifax Club."
Huddersfield Giants Interim Head Coach, Luke Robinson said: "We're really excited to have Brandon be a part of the squad and extremely happy to bring him in before deadline day. The reason we're bringing him in is due to the injury to Adam O'Brien leaving us light in that position - bringing someone in to give us a little bit more depth in that position.
"I've seen him on numerous occasions: watching lots of Halifax in the Championship and coaching Siddal U10’s side with Simon Grix. I speak to him quite regularly and he has nothing but praise for Brandon.
I feel that he fits in with the qualities we want in the club; his work ethic is second to none, he's a quality defender, he's fit as a fiddle and he's a good lad. By bringing us those qualities, he'll make us a better squad and will provide depth around our pivots in case we pick up any injuries."
Halifax Head Coach, Simon Grix said: "We as a club see this as a scenario where everybody wins. Unfortunately for Adam O'Brien he will miss the remainder of the season leaving them in a position where they need another hooker. It is obviously an opportunity for Brandon to get back out on the field and hopefully fulfil a dream of playing Super League. We get to help our DR partner out and we get him back better for the experience ready for the 2021 season."
Halifax Football Director, Ian Croad said: "Brandon deserves the chance to play at the highest level, we have a good relationship with the Giants and we are pleased to help out. He will benefit from the experience, and return a better player.
“These are strange times, but we all need to support each other.”
