Giants Appoint Tom Tsang As New Head Of Academy
The Giants have appointed Tom Tsang as the new Head of Academy after the departure of Kim Williams. Tsang, a Huddersfield Giants academy graduate, came through the system at the Giants and boasts a wealth of experience in all areas of coaching and youth development.
Tom joins us from the London Broncos where he progressed from Head of Academy through to become the First Team Head Coach. Tom has had a varied career which has seen him hold the Head Coach role at Coventry Bears, National Education Manager for the RFL and a Coaching role for England Universities Rugby League.
Tsang said “It’s amazing, I’m really excited to get going. I’m from Huddersfield, it’s my home town. I came through the Giants scholarship and the academy. This is where I came through as a young lad, so it’s brilliant to come full circle and to be involved back here again.”
“It’s really exciting. You can really see that pathway of players coming through to the first team over the last few years. There’s some really talented players waiting to come through and speaking to Andy there’s some real solid plans in place to really accelerate that over the next few years and make the Giants the ‘go-to’ academy and scholarship in the region”
“Obviously being a local lad I think that will help me work with all these guys coming through. More recently I’ve been Head Coach of the London Bronco’s so working with some of those guys there, previous Grand Final winners, I can pass on some of that knowledge”
Giants Head of Rugby Andy Kelly said “Tom’s somebody I’ve known for a while actually, we’ve both worked for the RFL. Tom’s worked in some quite challenging areas like the Midlands and London, which I like the thought of, although we are quite an established area I still think there’s a lot of development work to be done here. Tom’s worked in some really good environments and he’s had experience of all levels of the talent pathway, Scholarship and Academy. He’s coached at first team level both in the interim and permanently, with Coventry Bears and the London Broncos, so he comes with a real wealth of experience and that experience has never been linear there’s always been some challenges which I think sets him up nicely for the next stage of his career”
