Olly Wilson pre Warrington

We sat down with forward Olly Wilson, ahead of our home opener vs Warrington Wolves as we kick off our Betfred Super League season!

With the season fast approaching, forward Oliver Wilson has cemented his place in the Giants first team squad after signing from Bradford Bulls in 2019 and will be looking for another successful season in the middle.

After playing his part in 53 games for the Giants, Olly was rewarded with a new 4-year contract in October 2022, and will be looking to continue his form into Friday's game.

On how he thinks pre-season has gone for the Giants and himself, he said.

"Pre-season has been good, as a team I think we have gelled well, all the new lads have settled in well and have added a lot to the group. Personally for me it’s been good, there are plenty of good middles at this club so there’s lots of competition and I think that brings the best out of me."

We asked Olly about how much he's looking forward to our season starting vs Warrington,

"Yeah I’m really looking forward to Friday, it’s been a long pre-season and ultimately this what all the hard work is for, to get out there and play in front of the fans at the John Smith's Stadium, it means a lot to me and the lads."

After Warrington defeated Leeds Rhinos last week, we asked Olly on how much of a test Daryl Powell's men will pose the Giants.

"Every game in Super League is a big test, we’ve just got to make sure we perform and get the win, get the two points and keep building to what our goals are."

Looking ahead to the 2023 season as a whole and getting back in-front of the Giants supporters, Olly finished by saying this,

"My goals for this season are just do my best for the club and my team mates week in week out, keep building as a team and build on what we did last season in the league, it was impressive and we want to take that form into 2023."

"Yeah I’m really excited to play at the John Smith's back in-front of the fans, last year it was a bit of a fortress for us and I’m hoping we can continue that into the 2023 season, the fans are so important to us at home, they roar us on and everyone in the playing group really appreciates it."
