Giants go pink for International Women’s Day!

Huddersfield Giants will for the first time wear their stunning third shirt against Castleford Tigers tonight in Round 4 of the Betfred Super League Season.

Like last season, our official kit suppliers Oxen have done a fantastic job in gifting the club with three of the best looking kits in the Super League, but this year there has been one major difference.

For the 2024 season, we as a club wanted our third shirt, the shirt that would be front and centre for Magic Weekend on Sunday the 18^th August, to mean something more and to honour something close to us as a club. Giants Women in Business is an area of the club that we have seen grow exponentially since its inception back in 2017. The purpose of the event is to allow women from in and around the local area to network, connect, learn and get inspired. Whilst offering valuable insights and access to advice and support from our valued partners.

Having seen that over 30% of the Giants fanbase were women, now pushing over 40%, Huddersfield Giants knew they needed to look at making the club more inclusive to women. The first ever meeting was held in 2018, with an expectancy of 25 attendees, but were shocked when 70 women attended the event. Since then it has adapted and grown into a well-established women’s event within Huddersfield with over 200 women regularly attending the events that take place three times a year at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Our clubs connection to the Huddersfield community is strong, and to have an event that shows exactly how strong that connection is, is something that we are all immensely proud of, and as a result is something that we felt needed honouring.

Thus, the 2024 third shirt was born, a reflection and thanks to all the brilliant women and businesses that support us as a club.

The striking, pink and purple design has already proven to be a hit amongst fans, quickly becoming one of the top purchases this season from the Oxen website.

The Giants will be looking to get back to winning ways with the kit away in the jungle tonight, and whilst we will be sporting pink for international women’s day, Castleford Tigers will also be honouring the day with a female takeover:

💜 They will have 18 local girls rugby teams taking part in pitch activities.

💜 Women's lap of honour at half time.

💜 Their women’s team will be taking over game day socials which includes doing their match day interviews with the Men's team.

💜 Women's first team interviews on the women who inspire them.

All in all, it will be a fantastic event and a grand showcase in support of all the brilliant women who help to build, grow and inspire us all inside and outside of Rugby League.
