Ruby Tyson makes step from U19’s to Women’s first team

Ruby Tyson has been added to Lori Halloran’s first team squad following a promotion from the U19s side.

A natural halfback, Ruby was selected for the 2022-24 England Rugby League Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) programme.

England National Performance Squad member Amelia Brown previously featured in the programme.

Tyson has made a name for herself across both codes with community clubs Elland RLFC and Old Crossleyans RUFC.

She is into her second year with Jacob Holmes’ Giants Women’s U19 side, where she will captain and play for when available.

Speaking on the promotion, Tyson said:

“It's an incredible opportunity for me to continue my rugby journey and to further develop my skills. I've learnt alot coming up through the Giants ranks.

The step up into the senior team is a big one, but I'm confident in my abilities to adapt and compete at this level.

I'm grateful for the chance to contribute to the team's success and grow in a professional environment.”

Lori Halloran, first-team Head Coach added:

“It's a very promising time at Huddersfield Giants, we have lots of young talent coming through our pathway.

Ruby Tyson is an exciting player, with a great pair of hands and a fantastic vision of the game.

She has been around the first team for a while now and already has a good relationship with the girls.

Ruby is a great addition to the squad and I can't wait to see her growth over the 2024 season.”

Head of Women & Girls Rugby James Westerby spoke on Ruby's promotion and the success of the Giants pathway:

“It’s great to see Ruby progress from our U19s to our WSL squad. Ruby is a talented athlete and a talented rugby league player who has been on our pathway for a couple of years now.

Over the last couple of months, Ruby has been training with the WSL squad and hopefully this environment will continue to challenge, support and develop her.

Her progression demonstrates the pathway we have for our players, right through from U16’s to our WSL.”
