Huddersfield Giants Celebrate Ramadan

In a Super League first the Huddersfield Giants will celebrate the holy month of Ramadan by holding an Iftar at the stadium. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, reflection, prayer and celebrating community.

Fasting from dawn to sunset, families break the fast at sunset with the Iftar. The fast is broken by eating dates at which point people adjourn for prayers after which the main meal is served.

Similar events will have been taking place across Huddersfield and Kirklees and for the club this is a fantastic opportunity to get involved, on a deeper level, with communities that make up the Giants family.

The event starts at 5:30 pm and the fast will be broken at 6:35 with invited guests from the Giants community and the wider Rugby League fraternity and will be a fantastic opportunity for education, understanding and togetherness.

Former Huddersfield Giants player and Executive Director of the British Asian Rugby Association Ikram Butt said “As we prepare to gather for this momentous Iftar event next week, we anticipate embracing the beauty of diversity and experiencing the transformative power of Rugby League. Among a diverse audience, we look forward to coming together to learn, to foster understanding, and to celebrate our shared values. Through the partnership between Huddersfield Giants and the British Rugby Association, we aim to amplify the voices of inclusivity and compassion, setting a powerful example for our community and beyond the try line.”

Huddersfield Giants Club Ambassador Cllr Masood Ahmed said” As a proud ambassador of Huddersfield Giants, it is both an honour and a privilege to be involved in such a momentous occasion at our home. The upcoming Iftar event, a first-ever at a Super League club, in collaboration with the British Asian Rugby Association, symbolises the power of unity and inclusivity. It’s a remarkable opportunity to bring together diverse communities in celebration of Ramadan”
