ACADEMY MATCH REPORT

​Doubles from Matty Hanley and Max Merta were not enough for the Giants academy as they fell to defeat by Hull FC at Laund Hill, 24-42.

Following on from defeats by the Visitors in Reserve and Scholarship grade, it would be the Giants Academy who started this affair the brightest. The opening 5 minutes saw the Giants hold sustained pressure on the Black and White's goal line which eventually led to Max Merta hitting a lead line to score on the right edge. 

This would be as good as it got for the next half an hour for the Giants however as the visitors got their foothold in the game, three tries on the bounce from the Hull FC, including one straight from a penalty from a kick-off out on the full really swung the pendulum in the West Hull based sides favour. 

However, the Tom Tsang's men finished the half in the manner they started it. A strong yardage set from the Giants, followed by a breakthrough centre field by Fullback Logan Blacker set the platform to play in the opposition's twenty. Then, a sweeping move followed, seeing Matty Hanley go over after a dummy and a step! 8-18 to the visitors at Half-Time.

The second forty started in the same manner as how most of the first half played out for our Academy side, as three quick fire tries from visitors took the game out of sight, and from a ten point ball game to the score being 8-36. Matty Hanley and Max Merta completed their doubles, sandwiched around a try from Logan Blacker, with Hanley’s second being the pick of the bunch as he climbed highest to collect a cross-field kick. 

The visitors had the final say however, putting any hope of a fight back to bed as they went over in the corner. Meaning our academy left Laund Hill defeated by a score of 24-42.
