Papua New Guinea and Leeds star joins Giants Women on loan

PNG and Leeds Rhinos winger Tara Moxon has joined the Huddersfield Giants Women on loan and will slot into their Nines Finals squad this weekend at Craven Park, Hull.

Moxon has played for the PNG Orchids once in the 2021 Women's Rugby League World Cup in their victory over Brazil, with a brace coming against the South Americans.

Tara's rugby journey started in the UK as there were no opportunities to play in PNG. She first played rugby while she was studying at the University.

She played fullback in her first game of rugby union and later joined Barnsley Ladies, where she continued to play the 15-player code and won the Yorkshire County. In 2019, she switched codes and played for Wakefield before making the move to Leeds in 2021. Tara was then called up to the England Knights pathway programme as a result of her performances.

Since her debut against York City Knights in April 2021, Moxon has made 33 appearances - scoring 19 tries - with a WSL Grand Final (2022) and Nines (2023) victory to her decorated CV. More recently, Moxon picked up a hat-trick against the Giants in Leeds' 66-4 rout at Headingley in the opening round of the 2024 Women's Super League.

She will come straight into Lori Halloran's Nines Finals squad in hopes she can find a similar result for the Giants as she did for her Rhinos last year.
