GIANTS SECURE TWO POINTS OVER LONDON

Huddersfield Giants secured a much needed two points over London Broncos with a hard fought 22-16 win.

A tough, well earned win at the John Smith’s Stadium in Luke Robinson’s first in permanent charge of the Claret & Gold!

The Giants started the bright of the two sides in the opening exchanges, and spent much of their time in the Broncos’ half. Leyland dragged the visitors up field with a 40/20 and looked to threaten but Adebiyi fumbled short of the line and the Giants regained the ball.

It was London who broke the deadlock after 14 minutes. After the Broncos looked to shift it left to right, the wide pass was knocked down by McGowan and another chance from close range was to come. Marcus Stock barged his way over and managed to free the ball up to ground and open the scoring.

The scores were level with ten to play in the opening half. Lolohea stabbed a kick through which ricocheted off Rourke who was under pressure from Bibby, and back into Lolohea’s path. He dotted down and gave Russell the chance to add the extras from the tee.

Russell’s boot was called upon again shortly after. A late hit on Clune saw the Giants receive a penalty, and opted to nudge in front. Russell did the honours and hit the target.

Lolohea was over for the Giants second score of the game with just a minute and half to go before the break. A magnificent break from Naiqama left the Broncos chasing with just one to beat. Lolohea was there to finish off a 2-on-1 and double his tally for the day.

With a half time score of 14-6, the second half was finely poised.

It was the boys from the Capital that had the first say after the break. Miloudi was first to a Leyland grubber and grounded the ball. After a video review, the try was awarded.

London took the lead 10 minutes later. Leyland, again with the kick through and this time it was Adebiyi there to ground. Leyland converted the try to edge in front with just short of half an hour to play.

A high shot on Russell allowed the Giants to level the game from close range, with his 2nd penalty goal conversion of the contest.

3 minutes later, the tee was on again. A penalty for dissent after Clune had stabbed a kick in goal to Rourke, who pleaded that he’s made it out of the in-goal area. Russell again, added two more to the Giants’ total and put them back in front.

The Broncos were down to 12 men for the final five minutes of the game when Lovell was shown a yellow card for a late hit on Russell. From the resulting penalty, the Giants put the game to bed. Rushton smashed over from close range to seal the two points for the Claret and Golds.
