GIANTS FINISH WITH DOMINANT WIN OVER TIGERS
Huddersfield Giants ended their 2024 Betfred Super League season with a 34-10 win over Castleford Tigers.
It was a fairly quiet opening stanza, with the first 15 minutes lacking in clear cut chances. The visitors came close down their left edge, although former Giant Mellor couldn’t execute. A flash of brilliance from Lolohea after Bibby stopped a 20/40 propelled the Giants up field, but to no avail.
The Giants did get the ball down and opened the scoring after 20 minutes. A high bomb from departing oliver Russell wasn’t taken by Qareqare, and Milner was there to collect it. He made the pass to Hewitt who went alone and grounded to the left of the posts.
The Giants had their second just 2 minutes later! A dribbled kick in behind from Clune was pounced upon by Harry Rushton and the Giants extended their advantage!
It didn’t take long for yet another Giants score! Less than a week on from announcing his contract extension, McGowan was on the scoresheet! A neat shift left, and an offload from Hewitt saw McGowan free to add another in the corner.
Tui Lolohea sealed the first half onslaught with a piece of what can only described as sheer brilliance! A chip over the top from the Giants number 6, and he chased it. The bounce sat up perfectly and he beat everyone for pace to score!
The Giants went into the break 22-0 up, and very, very good for it!
It was the Claret & Golds who struck first in the second half. A break through the middle from Marsters, and a two on one situation with Cklune by his side. He executed the pass and Clune added four more.
The visitors did have some success and scored 15 minutes after the break. Miller chipped a kick over the top towards the corner, and Qareqare took it cleanly and dotted down.
However, it was short lived success for Castleford as the Giants went over again! Hewitt bounced off a tackle and opened up a gap from close range. He made it count and went over on his own for his second of the night.
Castleford had their second of the night with seven to play. Another crossfield kick from Miller was taken by Mellor and grounded.
