Inside Malaga Day 2: Sutcliffe ready for action

Liam Sutcliffe joined the club back in September and was rehabbing an injury he sustained prior to joining Robbo’s side. That being said, he integrated with the squad from the get go, and is a key member of the group already.

He praised the lads for how welcome he has been made to feel since his arrival.

“I’m settling in really well. Everyone has made me feel really welcome and I got to know everyone pretty early on. Obviously being in camp at the moment, you’re with everyone nearly all day every day. Everyones made me feel part of it and welcome from the start and I’m really enjoying it.”

The weather in Malaga has only had one small blip on the first day, with the sun shining down on the hard graft the Giants are putting in at the Estadio Ciudad de Málaga. Sutcliffe explains how camp has so far been key to the lads bonding, getting team cohesion and becoming a real tight knit group ahead of the big season kick off in February.

“Camp has been good so far. It’s good to get some sun. The first day wasn’t ideal because it was bouncing it down with rain in the morning but the sun came in the afternoon for the second session. It’s better than being at home.”

“It’s the same with every camp I’ve been on, it’s good because of the team bonding, and integrating the new fellas, and this has been no different.”

As for Liam’s injury, we’re glad to say he’s come on leaps and bounds with rehab since the Giants medical and conditioning teams got to work, and he is back in full training and getting prepared for 2025.

“I’m feeling really good. I’m back in full training now which is positive. I started doing some training before the new year, but now at the turn of the year I’m in fully and fit now so I’m really happy about that. It’s been a bit of a long one, and a tough one to come back from, but I’m happy to be back in training.”

Coming into a new environment and particularly with a new Head Coach at the helm can be challenging, but Sutty and Robbo, along with the rest of the squad, are becoming more and more familiar with how Luke Robinson wants to play and train. Now Liam is more involved than he was when he first walked through the door, he has set his sights on a fast start to the season and life in Huddersfield.

“I’ve had little conversations with Robbo here and there, obviously before Christmas I wasn’t in training too much with the rehab, so there wasn’t much team stuff to talk about but now I’m back he’s telling us what he wants and how he wants things which is good. Everyone is getting on the same page so hopefully it’s a decent start to the season.”
