The Huddersfield Giants Community Trust are hiring an enthusiastic and passionate Rugby League Development officer.

Job Title: Rugby League Development Officer

Location: Huddersfield Giants Community Trust, The Zone and Community Outreach (Kirklees)

Job Type: Full-Time – 37.5 Hours Per Week

Contract Type: 12 month contract, with option to potentially extend

Reports to: Rugby and Schools Sport Development Manager

Salary: Subject to experience

Role Overview:

The Rugby League Ambassador Club Development Officer will lead on strengthening relationships between Huddersfield Giants Community Trust, Huddersfield Giants and community rugby league clubs across Kirklees.

This role will focus on increasing participation, supporting club development, improving the matchday experience, and creating stronger links between the professional club and its grassroots community network.

The postholder will work closely with the Huddersfield Giants, the Rugby Football League, and local clubs to grow rugby league participation and ensure high-quality experiences for players, coaches, and volunteers.

Club Engagement & Development

  • Lead on the engagement and development of Ambassador Clubs across Kirklees.
  • Visit local community rugby league clubs at least three evenings per week to deliver training support, coach development sessions (CPD), and practical workshops.
  • Identify development needs within clubs (for example starting new age groups or female teams) and provide tailored support to help them grow.
  • Build strong relationships with club coaches, volunteers, and committee members to support sustainable development.
  • Coordinate and deliver club development events, festivals, and workshops.

Matchday Engagement

  • Plan and deliver community engagement activities at Huddersfield Giants home matchdays (approximately every other week during the season).
  • Develop and oversee matchday initiatives that increase participation and visibility of Ambassador Clubs (for example flag bearing, half-time games, and pre-match festivals).
  • Liaise with Huddersfield Giants staff to enhance the overall matchday experience for community clubs.

Schools & Participation Delivery

  • Deliver rugby league coaching sessions in local schools, both independently and alongside HGCT coaches, to support participation targets.
  • Develop school engagement programmes that link directly to Ambassador Clubs, encouraging players to transition into community teams.
  • Support the organisation and delivery of school competitions, festivals, and tournaments.

Administration & Reporting

  • Support monitoring and evaluation of all rugby league activities in line with RFL and HGCT objectives.
  • Maintain accurate records of participation, club engagement, and outcomes.
  • Assist in producing reports, case studies, and promotional content showcasing impact.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience delivering high-quality sports or rugby league coaching sessions.
  • Strong understanding of community rugby league and club structures.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Confident working with a wide range of partners including schools, community clubs, and governing bodies.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to own transport.
  • Minimum Level 2 Rugby League Coaching qualification (or willingness to achieve).
  • Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and equality of opportunity.

Desirable

  • Experience delivering coach education or CPD.
  • Experience in event coordination or community engagement.
  • Knowledge of RFL participation programmes and pathways.
  • First Aid and Safeguarding qualifications.
