GIANTS CHANGES CONTINUE

Huddersfield Giants longest standing Director Mel Green has retired from the board of directors and been made a Life President of the club to acknowledge over 30 years of service to the Bet Fred Super League Giants. This follows on from Chris Taylor recently stepping down from the Board

Giants Chairman Ken Davy OBE paid tribute to a man who has stood alongside him every step of the way during his time at the Giants.

“This is both a sad and yet exciting day for us all at the club. Mel has been a fixture here from before I became involved. Indeed, he was part of the board that persuaded me to join up firstly as a sponsor and then as the owner, so our journeys in this great game have been very similar. The reality is that had Mel and his colleagues not stepped forward back in the early 1990’s then there may well have never been a Giants team, let alone one that has competed in the Betfred Super League for well over 20 years enjoying three Challenge Cup finals and the League Leaders shield in 2013. Mel's soundings and sage advice have always been highly valued by everyone at the club and whilst it is with sadness he steps down it is also a further outward sign that the club is changing , as we recognise that we must: Giants Unleashed is a programme that represents change. I have set a goal of a Grand Final appearance within the next three years which we know will involve many changes not least of which will be our home venue but my determination remains as firm as ever. I sincerely hope to share that day with Mel, his family and the Giants supporters of course and expect this latest change of the club be one of many in both the short and medium term.”
