Match Report - Wigan (H)

Huddersfield Giants would rue crucial calls as the fell to Wigan Warriors 10-24 in a tightly contested affair at the Accu Stadium.

Kieran Rush, Tanguy Zenon and George King made their returns into the Giants team as we faced Wigan Warriors at the Accu Stadium.

After soaking up some early pressure, we took the lead through Taane Milne who crashed over in the corner, Rush couldn't add the extras from out wide and it stood at 4-0.

Wigan then crashed over for their first try, though Oli Partington after repeated penalties saw them gain field position.

Another try came soon after from Wigan, as Smith drew out Wrench to play in Eckersley, the Warriors taking the lead for the first time this evening.

Zenon on his return to the side would meet an unfortunate end, after he was hit hard and failed his HIA, after a promising performance, replays showed that he was hit with a shoulder to the head, this meant that Flanagan was activated as 18th man and came on in second half. The incident was put on report.

That was how the score would stand going into the break after both sides played strong defensive performances, Jim Lenihan sure to be impressed with how his side reacted after our defeat to Bradford last time out.

After fifteen minutes played of the second half, we levelled the scores through Jacob Gagai, burrowing his way under Field and Flanagan who was introduced after the break due to Zenon's failed HIA, brought us to 10-10 with a touchline conversion.

Then, came the turning point in the game, as Marsden knocked on close to our line, we broke clear and a number of passes saw Evalds finish the move off.

Play was brought back for a forward pass, with replays showing the pass did infact not go forward and the try should have been allowed to stand, then, Wigan somehow challenged the ruling of a forward pass and play was brought back for a high tackle, Keighran kicking the penalty.

Another Wigan score came just before the end through Eckerlsey getting his second and then another, 10-24.

A huge effort from the Giants against Wigan, but we fall short on this occasion. 10-24.
